In order to determine whether teachers missed the day because of illness or other legitimate reasons, each one was interviewed, said Bruce Anderson, co-assistant superintendent for the Merrill school district. Since the Feb. 18 incident, members of the district's three unions, including the teachers union, agreed to one-year extensions to their current contracts.
