DAKAR, Senegal -- An attempt to overthrow the military government of Mauritania failed yesterday after bloody clashes that left some dead, broadcasts said. Mauritanian leaders blamed the coup attempt on neighboring Morocco, involved in a struggle for the phosphates-rich Western Sahara.
