THE Democratic caucus of the House comes to the rescue of the Doorkeeper, whose unbounded generosity, jogged, we presume, by one or two modest applications a lady has led him into making for on the pay roll. Polk should not be discouraged. In a few years there will be a Democrat installed at the other end of the avenue, who will have something like eighty thousand places in his gift and will therefore be a "bigger man than old Polk".
