The startling announcement made yesterday in a morning journal that the Secretary of the Interior had forged the President's name to the reeappointment of Mr. Hayt, or that he had caused it to be done by his clerk was the sensation of the day in a city devoted to sensations. Naturally nobody believed the charge to be correct or even truthful, but a POST reporter was immediately directed to call on the Secretary and make the proper inquiries.
