Currently, [Christian Zapatka], who not so coincidentally has a Prua hide residing in his living room, is completing a client's Georgetown home renovation on P Street NW. He plans on pouring a white resin over the kitchen floor, the perfect backdrop, he says, for one of [Michael Orr]'s dark brown hides.

[Mick Mier] first met Orr when he used Prua hides to upholster a Mount Pleasant couple's bi-level staircase (including the landing) in black and white Holstein. Mier has since used Orr as an upholstery resource for the couches, ottomans and side tables he's designed for such area businesses as Love Cafe and Thievery Corporation.

On a recent Friday in his shop, Orr is giving a command performance for Suzanne Showers, a director of business development for American Express corporate services. Carrying out what she calls a little "shopping therapy," Showers has already purchased two leather cuff bracelets and a black and white hide handbag and attempted the purchase a horn ring right off Orr's own finger.
