The Palestinians appear to have suspended attacks inside Israel proper, but are continuing with ambushes, drive-by shootings and bombings in the Israeli-occupied parts of the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Israeli troops continue to use live ammunition against Palestinian teenagers who throw stones or fire slingshots at their vehicles and positions.
The Israeli army said the bomber blew himself up on a road where the soldiers were patrolling near the Jewish settlement of Dugit, in an Israeli-controlled portion of the northern Gaza Strip. As the soldiers approached, a Palestinian woman on the roof of a house signaled to the soldiers that a jeep parked below was waylaid in the sand, an army spokeswoman said. When the soldiers got out of their armored car and neared the jeep, the bomber detonated his explosives, killing two soldiers and slightly wounding a third.
