It's common these days to find singer-songwriters touring under one banner, sharing expenses, harmonies and audiences. However, at the Birchmere on Monday night, the Cry Cry Cry tour, featuring Dar Williams, Lucy Kaplansky and Richard Shindell, offered a refreshing twist. Instead of showcasing original material, the format allowed each of these musicians to perform songs they've discovered on the road. As a result, the concert embraced a broad variety of perspectives, ranging from deeply personal ballads to beautifully crafted narrative tales.
