The 55-year-old health care placement specialist, who lives in Southwest Washington's Ward 2, said he dropped out to increase [John] Gloster's chances of a good showing in tomorrow's election against the top contenders, Democrat Anthony A. Williams and Republican Carol Schwartz.

Johari Abdul Malik, a graduate of Howard, was named chaplain at a ceremony that also included an announcement of the launching of the National Association of Muslim Chaplains Division of Higher Education. Abdul Malik has served as a liaison with the Howard University Muslim Student Association and has founded associations for faculty and staff and for alumni.

Terence Reif of Chesapeake and Glen Fajardo of Virginia Beach were cleaning carpets at the Suffolk home of Robert Kohout when Kohout heard tires squealing and a bang next door. Kohout discovered that Walter Graham Sr. had driven his car into his pool. He ran back to his house and got Reif and Fajardo to help.
