At Kinkead's restaurant, Bob Kinkead is addressed by his employees as "head chef." But this title -- an endearment on the part of the staff -- sells the celebrated chef a bit short, because he also is business manager and controlling partner of the four-star restaurant that sits among the shops and other eateries at 2000 Pennsylvania Ave. NW.
Kinkead's restaurant opened its doors in October 1993 and quickly became one of the Washington ar\ea's most popular. Local diners, familiar with Kinkead's cooking from his previous post as head chef for 21 Federal, have flocked to his latest venture. The American brasserie caters to an upper-crust clientele and Washington's elite frequent the elegant eatery.
The cuisine at Kinkead's restaurant also was praised by the Mobil Travel Guide, which raised its rating for the restaurant in its latest publication from three to four stars, placing Kinkead's in the top 2 percent of restaurants in the country.
