In their final, desperate moments in the 120-degree desert heat, some of the lost soldiers of the Mexican army's 18th Mechanized Calvary Regiment stripped naked, ripping off even the metal dog tags that had begun to scorch their flesh.

On Thursday, rescuers found two bodies, adding to 11 found Wednesday. The deaths followed a torturous two-day odyssey in which 39 soldiers became lost on a special forces training mission in the Laguna Salada (Salty Lagoon) Desert south of Mexicali near the California border, according to the Mexican Defense Ministry. One soldier was missing and presumed dead.
