A member of the Congressional Human Rights Caucus yesterday said he will investigate the veracity of allegations of Iraqi atrocities in Kuwait made by a 15-year-old girl, identified for the first time yesterday as the daughter of Kuwait's ambassador to the United States.
Amnesty International, which originally included the baby deaths in its human rights report on Iraq's actions in Kuwait, later distanced itself from the allegations. The group, whose reports President Bush used repeatedly to denounce Iraqi abuse, later said it "found no reliable evidence that Iraqi forces had caused the deaths of babies by removing them or ordering their removal from incubators."
