Edward Carroll's musical beginnings were inspired by a door-to-door trumpet salesman in Chicago nearly 30 years ago. The salesman's pitch worked pretty well: Today Carroll is the director of the New York Trumpet Ensemble. The 34-year-old trumpeter and his brassy group are coming to the University of Maryland, College Park, on Saturday at 8 p.m. to present "The Art of the Trumpet: 1600-1725." The all-baroque program will feature works by Vivaldi, Purcell and Bach, among others.
