Two federal agencies are investigating allegations that the nation's largest biotechnology company has boosted sales of its prescription growth hormone for children by using a non-for-profit Virginia foundation as a marketing arm. The Food and Drug Administration said yesterday that it is looking into whether Genetech Inc. of South San Francisco has promoted its prescription drug Protropin "for unapproved uses" and whether the Human Growth Foundation of Falls Church is acting as an agent to recruit customers for Protropin.
