Virginia State Police said investigators tracked Thomas Eugene Burks, 47, to Chapel Hill, N.C., after he failed to appear in Prince William County Circuit Court for a preliminary hearing Nov. 3. Burks had been freed on $100,000 bond and has violated the terms of his release several times since his initial arrest in September, according to court documents.

Lucy Caldwell, state police spokeswoman, said Monday that authorities in Orange County, N.C., arrested Burks last week after police got a tip that he was in Chapel Hill. Because Burks had failed to appear in court, a Prince William judge had ordered his arrest.

According to court records, Burks had violated the terms of his release at least three times before, including an arrest Oct. 5 on public drunkenness. Burks was ordered not to use drugs or alcohol while on bond. Records indicate that Burks also failed numerous times to comply with daily telephone checks and missed at least one office visit with his pretrial supervision officer.
