Southern Maryland's state senators and delegates are asking state transportation officials to reconsider a proposal to drastically cut the Route 5 Flyer, a commuter bus service used by St. Mary's residents who work in the District.

The state Mass Transit Administration wants to reduce bus services from Charlotte Hall to the District -- cutting back from 23 buses each way to 14. The cuts would allow MTA to increase bus service from La Plata and Waldorf, where MTA officials said there are hundreds more passengers who commute to the District.
