This is clearly a labor of love for [JENNY TOOMEY], who released [Bruno]'s first widely available album, "A Bedroom Community," on her now- shuttered Simple Machines label. It also casts Toomey in a new role - - pop chanteuse -- backed by an eclectic ensemble that includes Bruno (on guitar, vibes, and pianos both adult and toy), members of Calexico and string players Jean Cook and Amy Domingues. Toomey's not always up to the task -- her vocals are occasionally wan and flat, dragged down by a plethora of ruminative tempos -- but she's always front and center with Bruno's lyrics, which seem to be the point of the album.
