One of the area's radio legends, Jake Einstein, the man who gave alternative rock a Washington voice with WHFS (99.1 FM), announced he is selling his Annapolis-based FM rocker, WRNR (103.1 FM) and his R&B outlet, WYRE (810 AM).

In anpther deal for $105 million, Disney/ABC yesterday bought WJZW and a Detroit station from Chancellor Broadcasting, the company that had bought it from Viacom earlier this year. Under FCC rules, Chancellor is allowed a maximum of eight stations in each city and would have owned 11 here under the February deal that brought 103 Chancellor, Evergreen Media and Viacom stations under one roof.

Musically influential but weak in signal, WRNR is heard primarily in Anne Arundel and Prince George's counties, as well as Maryland's Eastern Shore and Baltimore. The station was bought for $2 million by Empire Broadcasting, a company that plans to retain the progressive rock format, Einstein said. His AM station was bought for $375,000 by News Communications, a Michigan company that plans a talk format using nationally syndicated programming.
