Honors: The 800 Japanese Americans who died defending this country in World War II and the 120,000 -- including children -- forced to move to special camps for fear they were loyal to Japan. The United States entered the war after Japan bombed Pearl Harbor in Hawaii in 1941.

Honors: George Mason, the founding father who wrote the Virginia Declaration of Rights, which inspired Thomas Jefferson as he authored the Declaration of Independence. Mason refused to sign the U.S. Constitution because it did not abolish slavery.
