Scranton To Explore Sale Of Sewer Authority
The Times - Tribune
-
Scranton, Pa.
"If the Scranton Sewer Authority continues as the owner/operator, these costs would only be split among Scranton and Dunmore ratepayers," Mrs. [Janet Evans] said. "We have already witnessed numerous rate increases in the past several years and they are nowhere near the significant increases that lie ahead. A sale to a national or a global company would allow these increases to be spread among all its ratepayers rather than solely Scranton and Dunmore ratepayers." "We felt that the prudent thing to do was to find out what it's worth," Mr. [Gene Barrett] said. "We don't want it to be some number that the city needs to fill in some hole. It might be more than that, it might be less. The prudent thing is to find out the market value." Councilman Pat Rogan said, "We'll have to review any proposal that is sent down and go from there," while Councilman Frank Joyce added, "We'd have to see the specifics."
