Luzerne County President Judge Thomas F. Burke Jr., Court Administrator Michael Shucosky and attorney Al Flora Jr., who wears dueling hats at the county's chief public defender and as [Mark A. Ciavarella Jr.]'s lead defense attorney, attended the event. Sandy Fonzo, the mother who confronted Ciavarella on the steps of the federal courthouse in Scranton after his trial, also attended.

"On one level my book is about evil and greed," [William Ecenbarger] said. On another, he said, it explored the question of how Ciavarella and [Michael T. Conahan] were able to get away with their scheme for years despite frequent interaction with skeptical attorneys and members of the public.

"A corruption scandal like this is what a reporter lives and dies for," [Terrie Morgan-Besecker] said. "Honestly, there's a part of me that wishes it never happened. This scandal really shook my faith in humanity."
