Abstract (Document Summary)

"That's the exact question that political scientists are going to try to figure out," said Matthew Streb, Ph.D., chairman of political science at Northern Illinois University. "And it's too early to tell a?[broken bar] why he won."

"I think it was the fact that we've been talking about all along, that Ohio was in doubt and there's no path to the presidency without Pennsylvania," [G. Terry Madonna, Ph.D.] said. "So when they saw Ohio in doubt and the race get close here, they made a last effort to win the state and it didn't work. It's not very more complex than that."

"[Bob Casey Jr.] fought back," Madonna said. "What happened is he told people what he did. They just wanted to know, 'What did you do for five years?' It's as simple as that. He's a credible guy who people like and he just need to re-establish a connection with the voters, which he did."
