State Rep. Smith Says He Failed To Disclose Debts As Required
The Times - Tribune
-
Scranton, Pa.
Mr. Smith, D-112, Dunmore, said all the loans were related to his failed effort to rescue his South Scranton restaurant, [Ken Smith]'s Restaurant, which was foreclosed on in 2010. Mr. Smith said he has contacted his accountant to start correcting the forms. The forms are filed annually with the state Ethics Commission and require disclosure of a public official's sources of income, business interests, creditors and other financial information. "What I did was I inadvertently made a mistake," Mr. Smith said of the forms. "I'm sorry, and I apologize for that. ... It was an oversight." The Alliance loan has never been disclosed, even when it was held by PNC, according to copies of the forms available on the Ethics Commission website. The Fidelity and Penn Security loans were not disclosed on the 2008 and 2010 forms, but were disclosed on the 2009 and 2011 forms. Reproduced with permission of the copyright owner.
