Cardinal Dougherty, Archbishop of Philadelphia, established it in the city's Fishbach section, first at the intersection of Centre and Nichols streets. Then in 1920, its first pastor, the Rev. George W. Shay, led the parish to purchase the "Seltzer property on the east side of Centre St., just below No. 3 cemetery," according to the Zerbey History.
