Abstract (Document Summary)
In the book's prologue, which was written by Fitzgerald's father, he referred to his future wife as a "hen medic." Holoubek was a native of Nebraska, and Alice Baker was born in Arkansas and spent nearly her whole life in New Orleans, save for some in-between time when her father worked on the tuberculosis ward at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Pineville.
