Falling stocks in the United States and other major markets "have confirmed concerns about the pace of recovery and the quality of earnings, and will probably continue to do so for some while until there are clearer signs of a turnaround in corporate profitability," said Gerd Hausler, director of the IMF's capital markets department.

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Inc., known for its hot glazed doughnuts, plans to open its second Canadian store this fall in the Hillcrest Mall in Richmond Hill. Krispy Kreme's first Canadian store in Mississauga opened to long lineups last December as consumers rushed to get a taste. The new outlet will hire 150 employees.

Bell Helicopter Textron, a Quebec-based subsidiary of Textron Inc. of Texas, has received a combined $35 million (U.S.) order to provide helicopters for the Royal Air Force and the U.S. army. The helicopters will be built at Bell's commercial helicopter plant in Mirabel, Que., that employs 1,200 people.
