Abstract (Document Summary)

A45-MINUTE chat with mayoral candidate Tooker Gomberg proves he's articulate, well-studied, committed to improving civic life, and not the idiot one might imagine from his antics to dislodge Mel Lastman from city hall.

"The voter is poorer and the process is poorer if the media keeps repeating the mantra that Lastman can't be beat," Gomberg says, between sips from a gigantic cup. "There's always the possibility of an upset."

Gomberg says Toronto could look after its poor if the federal and provincial governments didn't plunder its resources. Homelessness "would be licked" if they contributed 1 per cent of their budget to eradicating it.
