Abstract (Document Summary)

Anyone who spent time in the Muskoka region from the 1940s to '60s probably knows the name Gerry Dunn. His dance hall, Dunn's Pavilion in Bala, was the place to be.

Born in Bracebridge, Mr. Dunn graduated from the University of Toronto in 1927 as a pharmacist. Two years later, he established the first Bala drugstore in a building with an ice-cream parlour and a dance platform at the back. The platform was expanded in stages and eventually became a huge dance hall.

Mr. Dunn is remembered as a visionary by [Peter Young], who wrote The Kee to Bala is Dunn's Pavilion, a book about the dance hall.
