Abstract (Document Summary)

n what may be a preview of the upcoming Emmys, The Sopranos won an unprecedented four Television Critics' Association Awards here Friday night, for outstanding achievement in drama, program of the year, new program of the year and individual achievement in drama for star James Gandolfini - a tie with David E. Kelley, writer/ producer of Ally McBeal and The Practice.

"If not for the critics' resounding acceptance of this show, we would not be here to enjoy this success," gushed grateful Sopranos creator David Chase.

The latter has all the makings of a huge cult hit. Action stars Jay Mohr (Jerry Maguire) as a nasty, manipulative, foul-mouthed producer of mindless action flicks, with Buddy Hackett as his manservant uncle and Illeana Douglas (Grace Of My Heart) as a former child star turned hooker turned script-reader. Keanu Reeves has a cameo in the pilot.
