Abstract (Document Summary)

With the third volume in his delirious Happy 2 B Hardcore mix- disc series, well-named Toronto DJ and Hullabaloo rave promoter Anabolic Frolic (known to his folks as Chris Samojlenko) once again reminds us that hardcore techno need not be synonymous with soul- crushing darkness.

Happy hardcore - the U.K. techno subspecies which has received its biggest North American push through Samojlenko and his Nokturnal Records distribution business - is the dance-music equivalent of a sackful of hyperactive baby kangaroos: Cute, irrepressibly bouncy and ultimately kind of painful if it has been stomping on your face for hours.

ANABOLIC FROLIC: Toronto DJ and Hullabaloo rave promoter (a.k.a. Chris Samojlenko) proves that hardcore techno need not be synonymous with soul-crushing darkness in delirious Happy 2 B Hardcore mix-disc series; BACK TO BUSINESS: The Backstreet Boys return with an abundance of bland, sappy ballads and choruses designed to push all the right buttons.
