Abstract (Document Summary)

A [Vaughan] councillor says Maple residents feel really stung that Toronto politicians snubbed a neighbourly invitation to tour the Keele Valley landfill site, home to Toronto's garbage.

Earlier this month, Toronto politicians turned a deaf ear to the pleas of nearby residents to close the dump as soon as possible, deciding instead to extend the life of Keele Valley by one year to 2002. The issue goes before Toronto City Council tomorrow, but [Mario Ferri] called the extension "a done deal."

Vaughan had even hired a bus at a cost of about $300 to ferry the Toronto councillors from Metro Hall to Keele Valley for the three- hour tour, which included refreshments and talks with residents, Mayor Lorna Jackson and other councillors at Vaughan city hall.
