Abstract (Document Summary)

Druyan, her parents and her older brother, Les, were very close, she says, and they remain that way. Her parents recently moved to a house across the street from Druyan, [Carl Sagan] and their two children in Ithaca, N.Y.

Since they began collaborating, Druyan and Sagan have produced a wide range of works, including Cosmos, the popular 1980 public TV series based on Sagan's book; Comet (Random House), a best-selling 1985 book; and their two children, Alexandra Rachel, 10, and Samuel Democritus, 19 months.

Their desire to discover how man arrived at the brink of nuclear holocaust led Druyan and Sagan to Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors, which took 12 years to write.
