Abstract (Document Summary)

Mr. [John Bernard Woods Carmichael] was one of the people heavily involved in Pope John Paul II's 1984 visit to Toronto, and his North York car dealership, City Buick Pontiac Cadillac, designed and built the two bomb-proof "Popemobiles" that the Pope used everywhere he went.

One of Mr. Carmichael's horses, named Fiddle Dancer Boy, won the 1981 Queen's Plate - with the Queen Mother in attendance.

The horse's success led to the start of a breeding farm, which held a special place in Mr. Carmichael's heart, his son said.
