Abstract (Document Summary)

Jean Martineau, a spokesman for the Nordiques, said [Pierre Page] and owner Marcel Aubut began returning phone calls three weeks ago to about a half-dozen teams that had expressed interest in [Eric Lindros]. Martineau would not name the teams.

Martineau's statement represents a modest advance in the Lindros sweepstakes. Until this weekend, the Nordiques had refused even to acknowledge they were ready to deal Lindros.

The Red Wings and Flyers have long been considered favorites to land Lindros. Lindros played for a junior team in Detroit, and his home near Toronto is just a few hours' drive from there. The Red Wings also have young players and several French Canadians who might appeal to Aubut and Page.
