Abstract (Document Summary)

The Etobicoke Board of Education plans to shut down Cardinal Josyf Slipyj elementary school in July when a lease with the Metro Separate School Board expires. It wants to reopen the building, near Royal York Rd. and Bloor St. W., as Sunnylea Junior School.

The Etobicoke board says it wants the school back because of a shortage of classrooms in south Etobicoke neighborhoods. Board surveys show enrolment at Sunnylea will rise to 200 students by 1994.

Etobicoke leases five elementary and one secondary school to the Metro Separate School Board. If public school enrolment continues to increase, [Don McVicar] said, Etobicoke may have to reopen other schools.
