Abstract (Document Summary)

HAMILTON - The suspicion around the National Hockey League is that Bob Clarke will make a deal soon for an experienced defenceman to replace Brad McCrimmon, traded to Calgary Flames last week for two future draft choices, on Philadelphia Flyers' backline.

This summer, Clarke was named to the management quartet for Team Canada in the Canada Cup international tournament along with Serge Savard (Montreal Canadiens), Phil Esposito (Rangers) and Glen Sather (Edmonton Oilers). Savard and Clarke have been the hands-on GMs of the team.

A man with an open, inquiring mind, Clarke jumped at the chance to be involved in international hockey from a different perspective. He was in the deep trenches as a player during the memorable early battles of the global shinny wars - the '72 Canada-Soviet series, the '76 victory by the Flyers over Central Red Army and Team Canada's triumph in the first Canada Cup in '76.
