Abstract (Document Summary)

Last year, [Ken Keyes] was forced to apologize for an apparent ethnic slur in the Legislature. And he resigned briefly after drinking alcohol illegally on an Ontario Provincial Police boat.

Keyes will lose his chauffeur-driven limousine and face a drop in salary. He will make the MPP's basic salary of $37,567, plus $12,616 in tax-free expense allowance, plus $8,506 as parliamentary assistant, for a total of $58,689 - a drop from his total salary of $77,724 as a cabinet minister.

Some veterans who lost the cabinet derby include 12-year Liberal MPP Herb Epp, who was also overlooked in 1985. Epp, who sat on the Liberal front bench the past two years and was active in committee work, said he was not disappointed.
