Abstract (Document Summary)

About 12,000 boxes of applications were deposited at two depots - one in Calgary, one in Metro Toronto, [Sandy Hunter] said. Each was weighed to determine the number of entry forms inside before being sorted into huge bins, one for each day of the 88-day relay.

Then the torch will be flown to Canada, where the coast-to-coast trek begins. On Feb. 13 in Calgary, a stadium flame-lighting ceremony will signal the beginning of the 15th Winter Olympic Games.

During its 88-day trek, the torch will travel 18,000 kilometres (11,800 miles) by plane, boat and runner in what will be the longest Olympic relay in the history of the Games, winter or summer.
