Abstract (Document Summary)

[Everton], winner of the FA Cup in 1984 and runner-up the last two years, went ahead on a fourth-minute goal by Paul Wilkinson. But Wimbledon hit back to equalize a minute before the half through Glyn Hodges and added second half goals from [John Fashanu] and Andy Sayer.

[Neville Southall] was unlucky to concede the equalizer when it arrived a minute before the interval. After Fashanu was hauled down by Everton's England international Gary Stevens, the Welsh international goalkeeper saved Kevin Gage's penalty kick, but Hodges followed up to ram home the rebound.

In the 61st minute, a shot by Sayer was parried by Southall and Fashanu lashed the ball home from 15 metres. Fourteen minutes later Fashanu headed on to Sayer, who outpaced Everton captain Kevin Ratcliffe and shot home from the top of the penalty area.
