Abstract (Document Summary)

The Metro Separate School Board is eager to take over Toronto's West Park Secondary School - due to be closed in 1988 - in a bid to accommodate the board's growing student population.

If the Toronto board agrees to take part in negotiations, West Park could become one of the first public schools in Metro Toronto to transfer to the separate board because of the extension of full government grants to Roman Catholic high schools.

Ned McKeown, director of education for the Toronto board, cautioned yesterday that board trustees have yet to decide what to do with West Park once its regular curriculum is phased out.
