Abstract (Document Summary)

Last year, the government chopped CBC's budget by $85 million ($75 million of that in operations), resulting in the reduction of 1,150 personnel and a virtual freeze of program budgets.

So, it comes as no surprise that Nelvana has been making a sequel, Care Bears Movie II: A New Generation. The surprise is that it has filmed secretly over the last seven months at Nelvana's waterfront offices and will be released by Columbia Pictures on March 21 in about 1,200 theatres in the U.S. and Canada. Over 100 animators were recruited.

As with the first movie, the voices are Toronto actors; Cree Summer Francks, (OK) Sonny Besen-Thrasher (OK) (A REGULAR ON Nevlana's The Edison Twins series), Dan Hennessy and Hadley Kay. The character voiced by Mickey Rooney in the first Care Bears will not appear in the sequel.
