In 1957, engineers Alfred Fielding and Marc Chavannes originally conceived Bubble Wrap as a type of wallpaper. Clearer heads prevailed, and the product was re-envisioned as a packing material. The pair was inducted into the New Jersey Inventors Hall of Fame in 1993. "I remember when getting presents wrapped in bubble, I would save that precious gift to savor the feel," says bubble-busting fan Charles Shackelford. "Now my kids are doing the exact same thing. Bubble Wrap (which is trademarked) transcends all generations." Reproduced with permission of the copyright owner. Further reproduction or distribution is prohibited without permission.
