 Abstract (Document Summary)

[Pat Borders] is now playing in the majors again at 41, having been recalled from Triple-A this month when the Seattle Mariners demoted backup catcher Ben Davis. But Borders, already a dozen years removed from his World Series MVP days with the Blue Jays, isn't like other 40-plus Seattle players Edgar Martinez and Jamie Moyer.

Borders has his World Series rings, the hardware to prove he was more than a bystander in the 1992 final - hitting .450 against Atlanta to claim MVP honours - and enough money that he doesn't have to do this anymore. Yet he does.

The Mariners are a rather unique story in that they had Moyer and Martinez, both 41 like Borders, as well as three other players aged 35 and over, in last night's starting lineup. Randy Winn, soon to be 30, was the only under-30 starting Mariner last night.
