 Abstract (Document Summary)

Many women complain of bloating, weight gain and swelling. The medical literature suggests there is no experimental evidence that documented fluid retention is part of PMS.

Danazol (Cyclomen) is one of the more uniformly effective treatments for PMS. It essentially turns off the flow of controlling hormones from the pituitary gland in the brain, shutting down the entire female reproductive system. It creates a sort of pseudo- menopause.

Hormonal manipulation with Danazol or a GnRH agonist is serious business. But then, severe PMS is a serious disabling illness. The side effects of treatments need to be thoroughly discussed before you go on any medication.
