 Abstract (Document Summary)

They've had no choice. Yesterday was one of the coldest January days in history around here, hitting a low of minus 22.7C (minus 9F); the wind-chill factor made it feel a lot colder, too - all the way down to minus 40C. Today will likely also hit near-record lows.

[Ray Winer] said he had so many clothes on that "I was actually hot" even though the wind chill was minus 40C.

This morning's low was expected to be minus 25C (minus 13F), beating the record of minus 23.3C that was set on Jan. 20, 1892.
