Monorail crash at zoo wasn't first, moms say
[ONT Edition]

Toronto, Ont.
[Kendra Sobotka] and [Diane Read] were riding the monorail during the 1991 school March break with a group of moms and small children when a second train slammed into the rear of their train while it was stopped between stations. Most of the other women in the party suffered some injury, although Read and Sobotka were the only people to contact a lawyer about the accident, Read said. The zoo expects to start removing the damaged trains today but officials cannot say when the monorail will be back in operation. The ministry of labor has ordered a complete survey of the monorail by independant engineers before it can re-open, zoo officials say. Reproduced with permission of the copyright owner.
