Geminis get live and dangerous E.N.G., Road To Avonlea top winners

Oh, it started out pretty hokey at first, what with the thundering tones of off-camera announcer Ken Ryan accompanying a hackneyed trick by escape artist Dean Gunnarson. Fortunately, Street Legal's Cynthia Dale got the show sizzling after that by kicking into a slinky song-and-dance that dumbfounded her co-host, Midday's Ralph Benmergui. Benmergui didn't stay dumbfounded for long, though. His crackling wit clicked into gear right away and stayed on the mark all night long. One particularly funny bit had Benmergui roaming the audience, trading off-the-French-cuff banter with CTV anchorman Lloyd Robertson, actor Christopher Plummer and other members of the star- studded crowd. Saturday Night Live's Mike Myers even managed to come back home for a Wayne's World sketch (without Dana Carvey). And a trip by Benmergui to the backstage press room brought goofy bits from a trio of Toronto media flacks. Reproduced with permission of the copyright owner.
