[Final Edition]

Hamilton, Ont.
Liberal Premier Clyde Wells wasted no time yesterday tackling the slash-and-save mandate delivered by Newfoundland voters as dejected unions considered their next move. Mr. Wells said he plans to meet with his cabinet tomorrow in St. John's and expects talks with union executives to start within days on cutting $70 million from Newfoundland's public-sector payroll this year. Ontario Premier Bob Rae said Mr. Wells' victory is a signal that people across Canada want their governments to practise sound economic management and rein in expenditures.
