A $100 million project to expand Highway 401 to a 12-lane core and collector system between Neilson and Brock Rds. in Pickering should end the daily traffic bottleneck in and out of Durham Region. "That's not good enough," Pickering Councillor Norah Stoner told a meeting of Durham region's works committee. She said the extra lanes are needed now to combat traffic congestion through Pickering during the morning and evening rush hours. Scarborough planning commissioner Ken Whitwell says the 401 expansion is badly needed to unplug the bottleneck faced by Durham Region residents who drive into Metro each day to work.
