OTTAWA - [Ian Waddell], the MP from Port Moody-Coquitlam who was thrown out of the New Democratic Party shadow cabinet for voting against the Meech Lake accord, today announced he was running for the NDP leadership. Waddell, 46, told a press conference the NDP was "suffering from hardening of the arteries" and he intended to "open the party up to new ideas." Several other caucus members are known to be interested in the leadership, including Yukon MP Audrey McLaughlin, the caucus chairman; Saskatchewan veteran MP Lorne Nystrom; and Dave Barrett, former British Columbia premier.
