Paul Castonguay, 37, pleaded guilty in November in connection with an incident at his home five months earlier. Court heard Castonguay and his former common-law spouse had been arguing when the man slapped the woman across the face, causing a black eye. He was sentenced to 45 days.

Justice Norman Douglas said after listening to [Jeffrey Mann]'s explanation it is clear Castonguay "doesn't get it.

He sentenced the man to 45 days in jail, to be served on weekends, and placed him on probation for one year. Douglas denied a Crown request that Castonguay be ordered to provide a blood sample for the national DNA data bank.
